Second Coat: London (The Getaway PS2)
A PS5 homebrew game · By Second Coat Games
The Getaway Remaster Team Soho's 2002 London crime drama, rebuilt on a new engine and running natively on Windows, Linux, macOS, PS5, Android and iOS. The remaster reads everything from your own copy of the game. Point it at a disc image of the US release (SCUS-97133) and it loads the city, the missions, the voices and the score straight from it. Nothing from the original ships with the download and nothing has been recreated by hand: the streets of London are the ones Team Soho built, block for block. What made the game what it was stays put. Mark Hammond's and Frank Carter's stories, every cut-scene, the original cast, the pacing of each chapter, and the lack of a HUD. You still read your health from your clothes and your route from the car's indicators. What changes is how it plays. Movement on foot responds immediately instead of waiting for an animation to finish. The camera is yours to move with the mouse or right stick, and it settles back behind the car once you let go. The cars have a new handling model with predictable grip, assisted counter-steer and stable braking, and each assist can be switched off. Keyboard and mouse sit alongside gamepads, and every control can be rebound. Cut-scenes can be skipped, the game saves after every mission, and wherever a change affects how the game plays, there's a setting to bring the original behaviour back. Visually, you can keep the PS2's own lighting, fog and all, or switch to a physically based look with global illumination, ray-traced reflections on supported GPUs, proper street lighting at night, and the rain the original cut before release. Widescreen, high resolutions, an unlocked frame rate, FSR 3.1 and HDR output are all there, and it scales down far enough to run on a phone. It's built to be modded, too. The community HD texture pack loads as a mod, or upscale the textures on your own GPU using the mod manager or the launcher on the PS5. And there's room for scripts, plugins, new cars and weapons, plus an optional online mode for driving around London with friends. Free and unofficial, made by a fan. Not affiliated with or endorsed by Sony Interactive Entertainment or Team Soho. The Getaway is a trademark of Sony Interactive Entertainment.
